Republicans have Warned Google for Limiting Search for Anti-abortion Pregnancy Centres
It was almost after a month when some members of Congress had urged Google to limit the search appearance of anti-abortion maternity clinics in some abortion-related search results. There are 17 Republican attorneys general who have been warning the company that doing such thing might invite investigations and possible legal actions.

As a letter written by the attorneys general on Thursday to the CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai which states that “Suppressing pro-life and pro-mother voices at the urging of government official would be violating the most fundamental tenet of the American marketplace of ideas.”
Well, the effort was definitely led by the Republican Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and Kentucy Attorney General Daniel Cameron. Later, the letter was shared with The Associated Press before its public release.
It is cited in the same letter that research by the nonprofit Center for Countering Digital Hate had found that Google searches for “abortion clinic near me” and “abortion pill” would turn up with the results for clinics that would counsel clients against having an abortion. Well, it has been found out that some of these places are called as crisis maternity centers. They have been under the suspect of providing dishonest information concerning abortion and birth control. Most of them were found to be religiously affiliated.
The letter from the Republican AGs basically defends the work of crisis pregnancy centers. It has been clearly noted that such centers have been usually providing services like free ultrasounds, maternity tests, testing for sexually transmitted diseases, and parenting and prenatal education classes.
Google has been asked by the Democrat-led group to address with what steps it would take in order to limit the appearance of “crisis pregnancy centers” in its search results, ads and maps results for the ones’ who actually search for “abortion clinic,' “abortion pill” or different similar terms. The company has been asked by the group if it would add disclaimers in order to address whether or not a clinic provides abortions.
Google and other Big Tech companies have faced recent calls for strict privacy controls in order to address concerns that information about location, texts, searches and emails might be used against the people who are seeking to end up the unwanted pregnancies.
The tech giant had declared this month that it would purge information about the ones’ who actually make a visit to abortion clinics or different places that might trigger legal issues in light-weight of the high court's ruling.
